chachybaby Posted October 11, 2020 Report Share Posted October 11, 2020 Hi all Having difficulty maintaining the synthetic fur while tying. A pile pulls off after I'm done tying. I'm tying on small 1/8 oz jigs. Length of fur is about inch. Using dansville 210 denier flymaster + thread. Probably my technique but does anyone have solution to this? toadfrog Posted October 11, 2020 Report Share Posted October 11, 2020 You have to in a way stack that stuff like buck tail. Cut a hunk off . Hold it by the longest tips . Pluck out the short fuzzy stuff mixed in where you cut it loose. That is what causes a lot of the problem . It won't let you cinch down on the filaments the way you need to. That depends on a couple things. Do you have a collar or no collar. Collars make it harder to evenly spread the fibers. That can lead to difficulty. No collar is going to need a grip laid down the shank to help hold fibers. That is where you wrap thread down and back to the head. Leaving a knurled look before adding fiber. As far as quantity sort of a rule I use is cut a piece about as big as a pencil is around . Puck the short crap out . Do as the above comments suggest regarding the short fluff, make 2 or 3 wraps, add a drop of the flexamnet and finish the wrap.
