Looking for a hook

Recommended Posts

I don’t think you want an Aberdeen hook just from your description. Aberdeen is a thin wire, long shank that will bend out. What sizes are you searching for? That will help a bunch. There are a lot of good 90 degree, heavy wire jig hooks available but when you get into smaller sizes the options look limited.

Just a cursory look at Capt. hooks shows a Mustad 32833NP-BN Ultra Point 2X strong 90 degree jig hook that might work well for your application. They bill it as a Salmon/Steelhead hook that’s heavy wire and  black nickel. Comes in 12 sizes from 1-6/0 that should be a nice hook. These will be more expensive than an Aberdeen hook.

Apdriver is on the money with the Mustad 32833. I know of some good ones but once you add in that you want something with a reasonable price they all go out the window. Also, Aberdeen hooks are designed to bend out so when you get hung up the hook will straighten out and can then be bent back.

I just started using this hook in an Ultra mold. I fished it last week and caught some flounder and a Red on it around the oyster beds. The hook held up ( using 15 lb. mono w/ 12 lb. fluro ).

Captain Hooks as stated above has them in more sizes but if you need 2/0 and smaller,, LPO has better numbers.
