Is spring usually your busiest pouring time???

Recommended Posts

I don't know about everybody else but I am SWAMPED!!! As soon as I finish an order 2 or 3 more come in.

For guys who have been pouring long, does volume traditionally drop off during the summer and fall or what???

I'm trying to plan some fishing time and I'm afraid I might just have to shut my website down for a while or suffer through spring with no fishing at all  !!!

It's a "feast or famine" business. It's not uncommon for me to get 10 orders in a day.............then go 2 weeks without one. When it comes to pouring plastics, one thing is for certain: nothing is for certain!!

After the first year of pouring, I thought I had it figured out. First year was slow in the winter and busy in the spring and summer. That would make sense, right??? Well it was the exact opposite the following year. :|

So it was back to the drawing board. I remember thinking "I'll pour like crazy in the summer and be stocked up for the winter website purchases".

That didn't happen.

Now I just take it as it comes. I try to save as much money as I can in preparation for those "down" times, which can be anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months.

There ARE a couple things I know for sure though:

1) Running website specials during those slow times really help. Maybe offer a free 25-pack of something with any purchase over 25 bucks.

2) If it takes away from fishing and/or family time, what was once a hobby quickly becomes a job. It's no longer fun, and it's time to lay low for awhile. It truly can be addicting, and you can't let it get the best of you.

Those are my 2 cents for the day. :)

Well put Chris. I gave up a good gig bulk pouring chunks for a regional jig mfg b/c it was just making me nuts. Money was good, but his planning and timing for when and how much to order became impossible to deal with. Called me out of the blu one day to tell me he needed a few thousand chunks to fill an order for Gander flipping Mountain...with no prior contact about the account or my ability to get the order out. Currently has another company pouring for him (my designs LOL) and has baits in Scheels, etc. Wish them the best, really, but the rod and gas money just wasn't worth the toll.
