Good old poly macrame yarn?
I've been playing with macrame yarn recently and it's remarkably close to EP fibers. Some of it's softer but some of it is really similar. Also when you start blending the colors it gets pretty interesting.
Anybody else using it or notice a big difference?

I bought some EP at a show but have yet to tie anything. I thougth I read you need to pull it out of the bag and carefully pull it out and lay it out in a more organized fashion. Hopefully that makes sense.
I'll have to check the craft store for the poly macrame.. that will probably be much cheaper and give me some confidence to give it a try. rick #3Posted 24 March 2005 - 10:36 AM
Haven't had much luck finding poly macrame at craft stores but e-bay has produced. Here's another alternative that looks pretty interesting: Needloft plastic canvas yarn. It's in the Walmart craft section for $.25. Yup 25 cents. Centavos. Pennies. Definitely a "confidence builder"
Tied my first macrame flies the other day; they look very much like the EP flies (at least in my mind). Ken #4Posted 07 July 2008 - 10:56 AM
I've been doing quite a bit of tying recently with EP fibers and REALLY like the action in the water. You can play with the amount of material, hook size & lead wire to make them neutrally boyant. It's not cheap but it is pretty great stuff.
