Store Bought Finishes

Recommended Posts

Hello! I am a newbe and have been looking through all the archives (great reading) I am thinking of getting into this hobby and as I do I am sure there will be a ton of questions to come. I was wondering if any of you could tell me ......When I go into my favorite musky store basically all the lures finishes look about the same to me, they look wet, and thick. Like they almost have a plastic coating on them. Do you know what this process is called? Also paint jobs look to perfect to be hand done. Do you think they are painted or do you think they use some tape or other covering and then seal it with this acrylic looking finish? Thanks for any help I will be asking more questions soon!

Most of the painting is probably done by hand. But decals and photo finishes are used also. The clearcoat is usually some type of epoxy or clear lacquer. I am sure that the big manufactures have some type of automated way of painting their lures. Do a search on the site for photo finishes and foiling. You will be amazed at what comes up. We have alot of sharp folks here. They do alot of amazing things as far as making, painting, and clearcoating baits. We also have some extremely tallented painters here. Everything that you need is on this site. If not..... just ask. :)
