Having tried unsuccessfully to make a stencil of the fin near the gill plate, I'm now trying to fashion that little side fin from the wing of the proberbial and dreaded horsefly.
Does anyone know where I can find sheets of decal material that can be simply run through a printer? Does such a thing exist?

It sure does but have you tried tissue paper. You can get water decal paper that is clear and can be used with a printer but it cost more than tissue paper.
From what I have seen the tissue paper looks good but I havent tried it yet...
Here is one source http://www.decalpaper.com/inkjet.html
