Any thoughts on where I may get some nylon rod, or nylon thread? Need something about .050 in diameter, and black in color.

I think what you are looking for can be found at McMaster-Carr.

Do a search for PTFE Teflon rod on their website www.mcmaster.com
They carry many different sizes and hopefully it is what you are looking for.
