I'm new to making my own lures. Starting off with inline spinnerbaits since they seem the easiest to make and I've always liked fishing with them. I'm tying my own bucktails and they seem nicer than the store bought stuff (Meeps), plus it's a great feeling catching fish with something I made.

My question is how are the lures weighed? For example is a 1/4 oz lure weight the total lure weight including the bucktail?

Second question is, on average how much weight should be in front of the bucktail?

Most of my lures are #2 & #3 Colorado spinners with a really nice bucktail.

It all adds up to weigh way more than that.
It may be a 1/4oz body on the shaft.

I cast lead on the wire and add brass bodies.
I make one as heavy as 4 ozs.
The wire weighs more than a 1/4 oz, that I start off with.

I do not think any would be under 1oz in muskie sizes.
It is hard to label any bait as a weight, to many varibles.

Tip call them size 1, 2, 3.......or model #.

Couldnt you drill a modify a shot mold to acomodate a pull pin and use the weight for the body?
