homemade wooden spinnerbait mold question...

I have made a mold that holds around 5 oz of lead. The wire i used is waaaay too heavy and I will repour tomorrow. The surface of this lead is not too smooth. I poured 6 or so. Pretty sooty. Can I coat this wood with a 5 min or ET? Will it take the heat? Thanks, the Rookie
