Mold question

Recommended Posts

I created a few different baits with Sculpey clay and baked them to harden. I made sure they were firmly pressed onto the pan so I could lay resin in without the need of glue.

But I see through the posts that this will not work with a hard master.

Question: Can i make a 1 part silicon mold?

What king would you suggest?

Whats the life expectancy of a silicon mold?

I just need to crank out a couple baits so I can set a resin mold.

Thanks,

Dave V

I prefer 2-part RTV to cast a master mold of a Sculpey original. If you're using the silicone in a tube, use 100% silicone.

The 2 part is a little expensive for alot of master mold making, but it will last for 100's or more pours.

Here is a link to a tutorial for using the 100% silicone in a tube. Steps 4 and 5 will help in getting the silicone to set up properly.

I did a better silicon mold of the whole pan of prototype baits. It came out much better because the first tube of silicon was pressed into each bait to get out any air bubbles around the baits and detailed parts.

Question,

Whats the life expectancy of a silicon mold?

Should I pour a bunch and make resin molds out of the ones i like?

Thanks,

Dave V
