Lead Shot for Ballast ??

Recommended Posts

Can't see why shot wouldn't work. It's just a matter of accuracy and convenience. I use lead solder. Cut a length off, weigh it on a digital scale and use a soldering iron or a propane torch to drip it into a cavity drilled into the bait. Many guys use finesse weights or custom cast weights so they can integrate the ballast with the belly hanger in a single drilled hole.

If you are using a solid balsa blank ( non thru wire construction ) it will work. If you are glueing 2 halves together, the shot is very difficult to deal with while trying to manipulate the halves throughout the glueing process. I would stick with a 1piece solid weight while doing thru wire construction. jmo

Im doing thru wire bait, this is my first thru wire .. was going to test it before adding weight then drill hole for the weight after dertmined how much wieght needed to have it sit in water with rolling over to one side. I premarked the area in front of middle hanger where I want the wieght, just thought easier to add it post glueing halves together. Drill hole insert weight, epoxy over. prime , and paint.
