LARGE MUSKY CRANKBAITS/LIPS ?

Recommended Posts

I am going to try and make some large shad style crankbaits around a 11" body and the lip will be 3/16" lexan by 2-7/8" wide and 3-7/8" long.

I was wondering how many screws you would use to hold it in ? and if you pre drill holes for the screws when your pre drilling the screw eye holes etc..? or how would you do this ?

Thanks.

I use 1/4", mind you my lips are a little bigger. Thinner Lexan will flex when being pulled through rocks and can cause the finish to separate at the lip of the bait. The thickness you have chosen maybe ok in the size of lip you are making. If you are buying it go heavier.

I glue my lip in to set it straight, then put two 1" screws in. I drill when the lip is in place and stop as soon as I feel the bit clear the lexan.

Guys I get my baits out to run them into under water rock walls at 5 mph, so might be overkill in your situation, but not in mine.

Brett, how big are the bodies and lips on the lures you make ? I thought the 2-78" by 3-7/8" would be considered one of the largest lips ?

I haven't payed for the lexan sheets yet so I think your advice on the 1/4" sounds like a good idea. I mostly fish Georgian Bay and it's really rocky here as well.

I've only seen pictures of your cranks, they look sweet. Thanks for the advice guys.
