What constitutes NEON

Recommended Posts

This is a good question because everyone has their own opinion of what neon should be. Simply put, here is one of the definitions taken directly from Webster's online encylopedia:

An extremely bright color.

Really explains it well, doesn't it?? 8O :-D

My idea of neon is taking a base color and making it "stand out". Some colors need to be brightened to achieve this effect. Some do not. Like Nova said, black neon is simply black with red flake. The red flake gives the black a certain "kick". Most other neon colors (blue, green, gold, etc.) need the base color, hi-lite powder, and a touch of black for a nice neon effect.

The best way to tell if you have a good neon color is by looking at your bait in the water. If you're throwing a smoke - blue neon worm, the bait will appear dark with flashes of blue accented by the neon. Kind of hard to explain, but you'll know it when you see it.
