Painting eyes

To save some trial and error time, does anyone paint eyes on powder painted jigs? What type of paint do you use for the eyes and do you put any kind of protective coating over the eyes? Thanks, Pop

Use laquer paint. The easiest way is to get a nail head about the same size as the eye you want. Dip the nail head in the paint and the GENTLY touch the area where you want the eye. DO NOT push the nail all the way to the jig surface -- just touch and pull away. That should leave a nice round eye. Pratice a little on a piece of scrap.

I use 5-minute epoxy over the paint.

Someone, awhile back, suggested using a permanent marker ? works fine. Clear coat 3D eyes ? Kman says he uses superglue on his shad 9 heads with the 3D eyes ? no overcoat.

When doing ultra lite stuff ? put the jigs back in the mold (opened and laying flat) after you paint the base coat. I use black fingernail polish ? go down the line with a little dab of paint for the eyes ? let it dry then flip the jigs around ? repeat and clear oat. A light right over the mold hi-lights the center of the jig.
