Flat eye jig?

Recommended Posts

I notice a lot of people like using a flat eye jig. Can someone tell me the advantage of a flat eye jig over a standard eye jig? Do-it has a flat eye weedless jig mold but I can't tell from the picture if this is a round head or oblong like a football. Is anyone using this mold?

I have one. It is a round head. I like the flat eye because your knot is at a constant point. If you hang in rocks, you can position yourself (assuming your in a boat) over your jig and pop it backward and usually free it. With a standard hook, your knot will just rotate around to the back of the eye and not allow the same angle of pull. Hope that makes sense. Basically, to me, they are easier to free up.

I have the arky with the flat eye and these are by and large my favorite all around jig. I have 5 other jig molds and perfer the flat eye to all the others. They do not hang up as much as the other style. Now, if they would come up with a flat eye hook for the Poison tail mold, I may change my mind.

I have all three flat eye weedless ball jigs from do-it. They are hardly used, maybe one or two have never been used. Just not my cup of tea. I very seldom use weedless jigs. I even pour my arky jigs without a weedguard. If anyone is interested, I would be happy to sell them. Pop
