What do I do first

Recommended Posts

I have no experience making my own baits, but want to start.I have no idea what I need.Where to get the things I need,or where to start.Im interested in soft baits and jig heads, and want info on custom molds.I would also like to know what is involved in the processes to make the baits,ie,molds, pouring, plastics, lead and everything else.Any help to point me in the right direction to get started and have more of an understanding of how it works would be greatly appreciated.

Honestly ... I would begin by reading as much information on here as you possibly can handle. These guys are the experts who do this stuff day-in and day-out. You will gain years of experience following the advise on thsi site. Of course PRACTICE always makes perfect. To sum up your question in a paragraph here is just to difficult. Read, read and read some more to get an idea of what you really want to get into and what type of lure making you are most interested in.

If you do go the Soft Plastics way ... Read the NEW "For Newbies" Sticky as this will save you time and injury.

Good Luck and have FUN!!!

I agree with reading as much on here as you can. I just got into pouring also and I have read so much on here sometimes I think my eyes are going to bleed! There is a ton of info on here and great people to give you the help you need.

I tried the "Read Before You Post" before I wrote my first question. I could not get one link to work for some reason. Every one that I clicked on gave me an error url not found. So maybe this needs to be addressed. Maybe other people are trying to use this resource also and it is not working for them and that is why there are so many of the same getting started questions?
