Overwhelmed Already

Recommended Posts

hey guys, I am interested in getting into this business in Canada, wondering who do i call, where do i go, how do you learn...etc., i am totally artsy and creative. Also a serious tourney angler, so the interest is high. I have some unique ideas that i want to experiment with, how do i design molds?, all i notice is aluminum molds, i also have use of some serious designing software, I want a very soft ,supple plastic, why is Pork not as popular as it once was?....any advice would be appreciated, expecially where/how to's in Canada. I am not sure if i can order this stuff and get it across the border.

thanks gents!

99.9% of your supplies will come from the US.

Don't get overwhelmed; just take things one step at a time. Do not expect to be a great pourer all at once. It won't happen. You are going to make mistakes and you are going to ruin material. It's just the way the learning curve goes.

You can make molds from plaster or resin and several other materials. Plaster is the simplest to start with and the cheapest.

As far as the unique ideas we've all had them only to find out someone else a long time ago did it. But don't let that stop you. You may very well have the next great idea for a new bait.(not a joke)

Glad to see another Canuck on here; welcome. If I can help; just ask.

Best thing in the world is to ask questions here on what to buy and where to get it. Then pour to start pouring, If you could find a local pourer in your area. Watching somebody pour for the first time is a great place to start. Making molds is not hard at all and you can find Tutorials here at T.U. on how to make 1 sided molds and 2 piece molds both out of P.O.P. It's really not that hard as even a samrt giy lik meees cain dooooze it. :)

ASK QUESTIONS here, theres a world of info in the members here! and they are for the most part happy to help.

Maybe we need to start a sticky post on how and where to start for the newbees? Just the basics on where to get mat. Like lurecarfts web, MF's web. and del for plastic. what to buy to pour with, that kinda stuff and where to get it. Links to Tutorials on mold building ans stuff. All in one spot so newbees could find the info they need easy.

What do you admins think??? I think it's a great idea!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you the general members think about starting a sticky like this????????????

Ill just mention that the people on this site are AMAZING. Flat out the best , most helpful forum ive ever been a part of. When I first started about a year ago, Jim from Ghostbaits helped me immensely. More than I could ever imagine. He sent me samples, etc etc, helped me decide what to buy, from whom, recipes, etc on down the line. I owe Jim a BIG debt of gratitude.

As for just starting out. Have fun. Period. If it isnt fun, you arent in the right frame of mind haha. The people on this forum are fantastic, dont ever feel bad about asking questions. Now that I have some experience under my belt, im offering any of my limited knowledge too.

graphics- which part of Canada are you from? I'm from S. Ont, Nova is from Nova Scotia and i think fishinator is from the Ottawa area.

When i first got started a year and a half ago i was in the same position as you are... i traded a bunch of PM's with Nova and he got me started on the right track, without his help i probably would have gotten frustrated and given up... and the same can be said when a customer requested a specific colour and i couldn't figure it out, i sent Ghostbaits a sample of the colour he ended up matching perfectly... both got me out of some jams!!

Whatever you decide you want to pour and from whomever you decide to order from you will likely end up ordering from the U.S.A., so make sure you have them send the parcel USPS as they seem to have the lowest brokerage/duty fees and also, there's one place in canada that i've found (another member on here btw Tubeman) that sells supplies in Canada... http://www.bassmagnetlures.com/ never met him, heard he's a good guy tho, might just pop by the Niagara Bass Masters meeting as i heard he's coming down for the next one ;)

little long winded, sorry about that

Hey graphics1988, actually I'm from Oshawa/Courtice...I probably live about 10 minutes from you....I'd be more than willing to show you how to pour.....what I know. And yes, Mike is an awesome guy...he started me off with some supplies and info. So give me a shout at 905-431-6533 and you can drop over to the house (garage) and I'll show you what you need and I'm sure that Mike would be willing to help you out with some supplies. The biggest mistake I made was ordering alot of supplies without having the necessary amount of molds (aluminum) NOT CHEAP....to keep up....anyway talk to you soon....
