Adding a barb to do-it mold

Recommended Posts

I have added barbs to my molds so i have extra hold. have tried a couple ways. the best is using an engraver that you use to wright your name on metal things. Take a peace of wire put it where you want the keeper and squeeze the mold together leaving a line to follow on both sides. I take one of my old 1/8 bits from my dremel and grind it into a v and tapper the end like a blade. put it in the engraver start at the end of the keeper that you are going to cut. turn it on cuts good and straight will leave a grove for the lead to fill. If you like the three round keepers use the wire to make the three marks. take a cilander, brain fart round but flat on the end. tip the dremel sideways like you are pointing it at the poring spout. cut all three the same on both sides. works well for me I wish I had picks no camera.

Hey guys I was on this board looking for some wires but will post my .02 anyway. A sharp wood chisel will cut a great barb in the aluminum and is way easier to control that power tools. Take a pencil and mark the barb near the end of the collar slanting back toward the head. Hand pressue is all that is necessary to take a smal sliver of Al out on each side of your line. It should be slightly wider at the bottom and fairly sharp on the tip.
