cavu
I have never owned a real Salt water fly rod. In the past, what little salt water fly fishing i did was with the 8.5" Lamaglass S-Glass rod I built 30 years ago. Last year, while fishing in Oklahoma, I broke the rod where it joins in the middle. I have since repaired the rod, to include a few stress cracks in other places (really ugly, but it will hold). I never needed to upgrade this rod for freshwater fishing as I never had any problems with distance or accuracy. I built the rod to be stiff and the WF-8 line did the job. Now I am looking at purchasing or building a rod for salt water use, as I do not want to break the S-Glass again. Does anyone have any suggestions pertaining to updated rods and components? ps: I have the experience to build a rod, but I can also afford to have one built. Maze
Do yourself a favor and spend some time on www.rodbuilding.org You will be very impressed and pleased with what you can find there especially if you do a search. Also check with www.tackleworks.org for a builder in your area if you choose. I am certain you will find what you are looking for via those sites. I build as a hobby and for profit but I always tell someone that if theyare willing, building it themselves will make it an extra special rod and is worth the time, labor and any aggrevation they may experience.
