Glitter and Powder paint.

Recommended Posts

Does anyone one know how to use glitter with powder paint. I tried to add glitter to my powder paint and dip my jigs but it never comes out right. Then I tried to sprinkle it on before the jig cooled and after I powder paint. Wondered if anyone knew of an easier way to add glitter and use with powder paint.

TJ's Tackle http://www.tjstackle.com (under powder paint) has Pro-tec Glitter paint, which is pre-mixed, as well as just the MetalFlake Glitter that you can mix with the clear for your desired ratio. There are 10 or 12 different colors. I think the best way to do it is buy the clear powder paint and glitter separately and keep adding glitter until you get the desired look. Use this mixture as a top coat and make sure you shake it up really well. If you are using the candy colors I have had good luck with mixing the glitter directly with the paint, but if you use anything other than candy colors it doesn't mix well. The paint will absorb the glitter and you lose the affect. If you use it as a top coat it won't. The clear also gives a nice glossy finish.

I totally agree with Buckslayer says about mixing it yourself to achieve the effect you desire. I purchased a pound of the pre-mixed from CSI a while back and what a disappointment. They put so much glitter in the clear, it is so heavy that the stuff won't even fluidize in my fluid bed. Can barely raise an air bubble. I reduce it with clear powder to achieve the effect I want.

Someone mentioned in an earlier post that CSI was bought out and had noticed that the quality was slipping. I would like to echo that. Whoever bought it fired the guy who was watching the store. Too bad, cause it is a great product. I am currently ready to purchase elsewhere.
