smally7
I am kind of new to tying jigs. I am trying to figure out the best knot to tye with my thead when finishing a jig. I have had some come undone, and was hoping one of you could give me the best knot to finish my jig with. Thanks a bunch!
Vodkaman
I have always used a couple of half hitches and applied a spot of superglue to the finished knot. This enables the thread to be trimmed close without danger of it falling apart. A spot of 5 minute epoxy would do the trick also and give a nice finish. jigfisherman
Here are a few sites with knots in video form that I used and now using a whip finishing tool is nothing at all. I hope they help. http://www.flyanglersonline.com/ http://copperfly.net/fly_tying_videos.php Brad
Vodkaman
Are you sure, with my bad reputation for confusing people! Wind a length of string on your finger. Form a loop and place the loop on your finger and pull tight. For safety put at least two. It is the simplest knot of all, but don't forget the superglue! Big-D
When every strand is in the right place, wrap the thread around the skirt material tightly until the whole width of the collar is covered (about 1/4" or the width of a regular skirt collar) and cinch the thread down with a triple half-hitch. If you take your time and cinch it down carefully, the knot will "dig in" to the wraps and bury itself- and IT WILL NEVER COME UNDONE!!! Trim the tag end of the thread in close and trim the skirt to the desired legnth and YOU'RE DONE! Big-D
lilcraw
I wire tie all my jigs NO KNOT needed, if skirt gets bad can always snip wire and tie again........alot faster and no drying time.
