Reusing jig hooks?

Recommended Posts

You could try using a propane torch holding the hook with pliers and melting it off that way. The only thing you have to be careful with is not removing the color from the hook. If I was you I would try wearing a leather glove, and as soon as the lead gets hot use your gloved hand to pull the lead off. I have used a propane torch to heat the lead before appling the powder paint and held it there a little to long and melted the lead off. I didn't have any discoloration on the hook but it was a 1/16th oz jig head. The bigger jigs may be more difficult. It is worth a try especially if you are going to throw them away. Hope this helps!!

Hit it with a hammer two or three times flatens out and twists off easy. That way you are not changing the tempering on the hook. I beleave in the tempering on the hooks and at the 90 bend it is the most inportant. that is the weakest point. mabey over kill but I spend to much time to reel in an eye of the hook on the big one.
