ive had that problem before. i simply drilled a hole at the base of the bait, inserted lead, and sealed it. make the weight as low as possible since the problem youre trying to solve is the higher than normal center of gravity.

I think that you are experiencing 'death roll'. All three variables can be adjusted to find a solution. The ballast could be lowered (as Chartreuse suggests) and/or moved slightly forward, the eye can be moved forward or the lip trimmed back a little.

As you have completed the lure, obviously you would want to try the least invasive first. Try attaching some solder wire to the belly hanger or glue a lead shot or two to the end of the lip. If the action is corrected, this will tell you that you are on the right track.

It looks real nice by the way.

I always put the line tie in the body just above the lip on shallow baits. If you imagine a line tied to your bait pulling it as it would during a retrieve, you'll see the pull force passes quite low through the bait, probably down near your ballast. IMO, that's too low and there's too much lure body above that imaginary line. If you increase the mass below the line with more ballast, that may help but it might require so much that you'd kill all the action. I'm assuming you have some ballast in there already. BTW - nice paint job!

This may sound like a stupid question but did you put hooks on it for your water test? Looking at the picture I notice there is still paint, etc. on your hook hangers leading me too believe there hasn't been hooks on it yet..Then again, you could have taken the picture before the water test and not after...Try adding more ballast too it..Nathan

OK, now that we have gotten past the, put more weight in the lower part of the bait. I have a question. What did you use for your eyes and spot?

Nice paint and photograph.
