the process...

Recommended Posts

I made a lure and it trolled great. Had it up to 5 mph and it stayed down. It has the bent lip that I'd learn to bend here. Anyhoo, I made it out of cedar. I put the screw eyes in, painted it ( foiled ) and clear-coated it, then hooks. Last I added weight to where I found the center of gravity. Is this how ya'll do it?? And if it is a design one might sell, could one add the weight before the paint and clear coat for a cleaner look??? Thanks again.

I add the weight right after sealing the bait with sanding sealer and prior to primer.

Usually I carve, seal, weight, clear with one coat of epoxy, then prime, paint, add hardware and lip, the three coats of Devcon 2ton.

Clearing with one relatively thin coat of epoxy prior to priming erases all traces of where the weights were added. Epoxy is the great smoother-over as my buddy, Tigger, says.
