  1. What is the ratio of acetone you use? And thanks everyone, I've been up and down scanning the archives here, but still can't quite nail it down. I will have to do some trial and error testing myself with a few of these and see what I like best, I guess. In the meantime, toxic automotive clear it is!!
  2. Ok, so, I manufacture fishing lures for a living; mostly larger, hard bodied swimbaits. I have been using a two-part automotive clear for years now, but, for the sake of living a long healthy life, I need to stop using it!! I am looking for advice on what would be my better alternative... It will need to be applied via airbrush over both water based and oil based paint, hang dried (no rotating), and obviously be very strong and durable. I love how easy and efficient automotive clear is to apply and it has a quick cure time, so I want something similar. I am open to it being UV cured, as well. I've researched some, but hoping you guys can help with speeding up my process in this transition.
  3. ive had this happen to me on some older baits... with older resin, you need to make sure each part is thoroughly stirred or shaken before mixed together. this was my main problem. i would shake each part of the resin vigorously, then let the bubbles from shaking it go away, mix the two together, and see if it still does it. if it does, get rid of the humidity, and try again. if it still does, junk the old stuff.

love it. can you give us a little more details about the bait?
  5. i searched and read all that already, is this just something im gonna have to investigate myself? i know i can get the bait to float, but im more concerned about durability of the plastic with all the microballoons added to it...
  6. im planning on making some soft plastic swimbaits like a huddleston. still safe for adding microballoons or would a foam harness make more sense? would rather use microballoons if it is still possible to make a big swimbait float with a wire harness and not lose any durability...
  7. are any of you guys adding microballoons to you plastic with much success? and how much durability do you lose by adding them? and are there any brands of soft plastic that are made better for microballoons?

    Fighting Craw!

then someone needs to tell luckycraft to take the craws off their bills on their craw cranks!

yup, thats how i make all my baits, molds of the real life creature. seems like the most logical way to me...

thanks guys, maybe a little big for my average bass around here, but still fun to make!

    Fighting Craw!

Here's the underside of my fighting craw. Hard plastic resin body with weight added appropriately to give it the proper sink.

Legs are soft plastic, craws float, and the tail is heavily weighted. Makes for the most realistic craw out there.
  13. Finally got my first batch done of these lures. Taxidermy paint techniques used. Thanks for looking!
  14. Aeromarine makes a pretty good silicone as well... I've used many others and it seems to be on par with the best and costs less.
