I just posted this on another thread. You may not have to add all that extra stuff. Hope this helps.

Here is what I do.
  • I form the loop at the end of the wire with a wire bender or round nose pliers.
  • Then I attach the split ring with the blade on it.
  • Then I finish closing the loop with my pliers until the tip of the wire is to one side of the main wire and just breaking its plane. (It will look like you went too far). By going past the plane it creates tension to keep the loop closed when you do step 4.
  • Then I take my needle nose and gently pull the tip into line with the main wire.
  • Wiggle the end to make sure the tip does not pop back out to the side. If it pops to one side repeat step 4 until it stays aligned.
