Art, in a set of plans I found on a website that has disappeared, the hot glue gun has been used to create what they describe as a leathery, spongey soft "hard" plastic. I believe they labeled it "PVA", so I think you might be right about that one. There's also a vintage bait called the "pop-top" that has a spongey yet rigid form. Can't say which company exactly, I believe burke's? Unsure what it's made of but it's fun to squeeze and surprisingly water resistant.
