It could have deterioration by UV or just fatigue. I'm always worried about how long ago was the manufactured and where was it stored since? I've seen hot and cold have strange effects on different materials, not necessarily fishing line. I think the fishing lines today are a heck of a lot better than when started fishing in the 60s.
