Wire forming question

Hi Guys & Gals,

Does anyone know of a homemade tackle wire forming tool I could make up or is there a store bought one that can loop 0.062 wire 12"? I already have the standard wire forming table mount one that does 0.041 & an attach that will do 0.051 but I'm not aware of one that is either homemade or other wise that can handle 0.062 wire. for looping. I find that 0.041 & 0.051 wire is to way to weak for making my Bucktails, as the Muskies up here in The Kawartha's average 51-55" Inches, with my personal best of 61.2" & 53 lbs. back in 1998. Nothing less of 0.062 will hold them other wise they just snap it like a twig.

Cheers! The Muskyman

Cool Re: Wire forming question

Muskyman.
Modify your wire bender to accept .062 wire. I filed the opening on the Head open to take the .062 wire and it still works with the .051 wire as well.

Re: Wire forming question

Thanks loads Bruce, you've been a great help...

Hope this works as my tackle maker is much smaller than yours by a long shot. Mine is from www.luremaking.com it's on page 21 or 22 of their catalogue. That'll give you an idea of what I'm working with. It also has the Musky adapter for 0.051, which I have also.

Thanks again. -Jay

Re: Wire forming question

Has anyone modified the Hagen's Wire Bender to accept the .062 wire? I looked on their site and it just showed how to use the wire bender and not how to modify it.

Side Note: Muskyman, I would love to see pics of that 61 incher you caught. That's a BIG fish.

Re: Wire forming question

Most manufacturers won't tell you how to modify their equipment. Some will tell you if they sell adapters for different wire sizes, Boggs does. I would have to see one to see if in order to figure out if it can be modified or not. If you have one, post a few pictures and we can look at it to if it's possible.
