BTW the upper part where i fish is clear and cold 100% springfed. no dark tannins in it/ where you see it at hwy 98 the Aucilla river has joined it.
It is very dark/stained.
I got out the good ol "DeLorme Florida Atlas & Gazetteer" (1998 model) Went to page 50-51... and tracked it all out and I see where the Aucilia meets it ... are you fishing in the upper end near the Spring ... the map shows it as a long lake then narrowing down and several branches fork off ... Looks like a landing at the spring. That is all most out in the woods.

Yea thats it, we put in at the spring and fish while going down.
There's a branch of to the left that goes to what the locals call "Deep Blue" has a floating dock where everyone pulls up and ties off.
Last Fourth of July some guys raked all the grass and got about 5 gallons of crawdads and boiled em up on that ol dock.
The people are great, the scenery is wonderful (lot of canoeists come down for this), and the fishing is good, laid back type of area.
Rumor has it there's a nudist colony on the west side of the river, but I've never seen it. More i Think about it I may not really want to
Funny, I had an ice auger when I lived in MI. Used it a couple times for ice fishing, moved off of the lake and used it for fence posts as well. Worked great. Sold it to a friend and he still has it. That was like almost 20 years ago.
yea Lively the specs are great up here/ aucilla and the st marks inlets have always been my favorite places for specs
Bass Assassin electric chicken is the goto fished under a thunder rig
or if you really want some gator trout get you a chartreuse chug bug and walk the dog.
Reds are good too right now in the oyster bars at the creek entrances
Don,
Cool. We'll have to meet up sometime. You ever fish Ozello? Let me know if you'd like to meet me there sometime and you can use my extra kayak to go catch those redfish.
Grims,
Ah yes, St Marks I know. Aucilla just have read about. I've done a lot of fishing further west at Port St Joe and Cape San Blas.
I have some lures for you to try up that way. Send me an email at livelybaits@aol.com so I can find out what colors other than "the chicken" for me to put in the mail to you.
In this area the other forum member I know is VARick, who told me about this site.
Neil .. that St Joe Bay is great as long as the Sharks are not in ... seems that is a big nursery for them. For Fall Specs and Reds hard to beat the mouth of the Appalchicola ... Course we have some pretty good Spec & Red fishing here on the Choctawhatchee but you gotta go by a lot of good places to get here and there are some to my west that are as good .... Electric Chicken is what has stuck in some areas go a mile further and it is something else .... As far as the "Walk The Dog" baits for big trout there are several good ones and if I can catch them on top I will stay with them till they shift gears.
Have Fun
