Yo!

For some reason, the other day I got the whack idea to go carving up my own crankbait.

Actually finished one and caught a fish on it!
Problem is it was toast after one use Water got inside the bait after I "tuned" it by bending the hook eye. I used "cyanocrylate" glue (aka CA glue) as my under coat and just some normal clearcoat for plastic models. I do actually have an airbrush and I used it on those baits, but could use some more practice. Also, anyone have a link on how to make nice scale patterns?

you can see my first two home made balsa lures here..
Homade Crankbait: first attempt.. - Fishing Network Message Boards
Not bad for not even searching on how they're made for my first time making one "blind"!

I'm 26 and live in Riverside, Southern Cali. I mostly fish for Largemouth at the local lakes and ponds and wild trout in the local mountain streams. I'm basically interested in making lures for bass fishing but may end up making a few super shallow diving minnows for the trout creeks as well (although those wild trout will hit just about anything).
I was shown this site by Matt Duarte, who also just joined. We usually get out there on the weekends together and c&r a bunch of bass.

Anyways, I'm glad Matt showed me this site. I've already picked up a few more tips from browsing and have started on my second home made crankbait. I'll post it up in the proper sections when I've completed or worked on some lures.

Tight lines folks, and nice site you got going here
