Lately we're having a hard water problem. The problem is the water is to hard for the boat hull and not hard enough to walk on.
Orion - You need to take advantage of the rainbow trout stocking program in New Mexico...
For me, cabin fever is starting to effect my thinking. I have started going to Walmart expecting to see new tackle deliveries and it just the same old junk, new inflated price, but the same old junk. And how many tackle bags does the normal fisherman need? Tackle bags, the 21st century version of the "Man Purse". Just because some fuzzie-butted rodent sees his shadow doesn't mean I should have to delay a well deserved fishing trip to regain my sanity.
At least the TU Meet April 25-27, 2008 in Clinton, MO is only 74 days away. Sound like a good chance to meet a few new friends and learn how to prefect tackle making by watching and talking to the pros. I think I'll start packing the car in 73 days, get an oil change in 72 days....

I have been taking advantage of the rainbows. You know where Eagle Nest is? I've been ice fishing up there several times. We've done pretty well every time.
sorry to hear about all the snow you guys are getting .... if you really want an experance try ice fishing at -43c with a wind chill of -51c. sure hope spring comes soon.
Never got to Eagle's Nest; I used to trout fish in Bear Canyon Reservoir, south of Cloudcroft, MN. It was about a 45 minute drive to Holloman AFB, 7 miles west of Alamogordo,NM.
The state used to stoke the reservoir with rainbows a couple times a year. When the kids were younger, 6 and 4, they both learned to fish catching rainbows. I used to set them up with a polish slip-bobber and they'd take trout while grown men standing next to them, trying to crowd them out of the holes they found and started fishing.
The funny thing was watching these clowns set their bobbers for 12" of depth because the they though that's how deep the kids were fishing. In reality, they were fishing between 6 and 8 feet. The polish slip-bobber was just our little secret and still my daughters favorite method.
New Mexico, the strangest 7 years of my life.

Sure enough mate. A common or regular slip-bobber is just a with a hole down the center. A polish slip-bobber is a common spring bobber with a small snap swivel added in the spring. Both type work between a split shot and a bobber stop, but the polish slip-bobber can be taken off with a minimum of a changes in a minimum of time. The idea works great for kids that always want to change baits and then go back to bobber fishing.
Since I rig it with the lead about 8" above the hook, the clowns never noticed the bobber stop was set about 8' up the line. It is a lot easier for kids and parents to cast the polish slip-bobber, than a clip on or static bobber.

Eagle Nest is fun. The only problem with it is that it get really windy about mid day because of where it located in the valley. I've never used a Polish Slip... I might try it some time.
Move to Maryland/Virginia We haven't had more than a couple of inches all year and they are catching stripers in the Chesapeake Bay ....... bigguns ........... sorry to hear you guys cooped up all winter ....... but hey ....... you should have plenty of new lures come spring ........
