I may be wrong, but I think the lemon wiped on the glass was to break surface tension. If it is the same as the stuff I remember, it is very lively. A definite skill to pouring it and very embarrassing when you get it wrong. The stuff I was drinking was Erdinger weissbier and there was a dunkel, a dark beer. The weissbier was a cloudy, which was off putting at first, but after half a dozen, it didn't seem to matter. Come to think about it, I cannot remember much about that contract, except what to order at the bar.
Indeed , it is that stuff , I was talking about , but I never liked it that much , but they say , that it is rather refreshing in hot weather .
Many people here up north go for the big native brands , "Holsten" and "Astra" from Hamburg , also "Flensburger" from same-named city located at the Danish border .
First mentioned "Holsten Edel" was ever nicknamed " Maurer-Brause" aroud here , in English "Bricklayer's Lemonade" .

As someone who is not much of a beer drinker but reigns in the Beer Capitol of North America I can say that you are correct. Pretty much all brewery's here in Wisconsin were founded by German Immigrants.
I would safely bet that Wisconsin has the largest amount of people of German descent in the U.S.
I have been all over the world and this is the only place where beer is used as a tool to draw people to events. Even Churches use beer as a tool to get people to attend functions. It is quite entertaining, but my wife who is from California where life is the exact opposite does not find the humor in it as I do. Go Figure!!!
One of my favorite times of the year in WI was 4H County Fair time and the fall harvest. We would feast on cold boch beer, fresh roasted corn, brats, and northern style baked beans. I've heard that back in the 50s and 60s, Wisconsin had almost 200 small brewerys, mostly with German origins.
Das schmeckt gut und kalt. Kann ich ein anderes Bier haben?
"That tastes good and cold. Can I have another beer?"

To fish or not to fish, that is the question... See you on the lake, I'm out'a here!!!
To bad beer and boats don't go better together. I saw on a St. Louis news station where the Missouri Governor just signed into law a lower blood/alcohol level for boaters... I didn't hear when it goes into effect or what it's going to be. I wonder if you'd have to alcohol breath analyzers installed on your boat after a drunk boating conviction?

No you won't have to blow to start the boat. In Nebraska if they catch idiots driving a boat or a junk ski drunk. They just blow a hole in the bottom and sink it then game and parks calls it structure.
Drinking and fishing in my opinion does not go together , though obviously many guys over here use it as an excuse to their darlings back home just to empty a few six packs with their buddies at the waters edge !
I have done that few times as well , when I was younger , but I noticed pretty fast , that its useless , I want to catch fish and not constantly hang my lures & floats into trees and/or hopelessly tangle my line !
And drinking beer results into having to pee a lot , even hazardous on a boat !
I once read , that in the heavily fished coastal waters around Norway most people drowned were found with the zippers of their pants open..... !
Still... , cheers , diemai
