In another thread Vodkaman made an interesting post that I thought might be of importance to all of our members, especially the new ones. He stated in part: "Personally, when I joined, I was overwhelmed by the expertise and knowledge of the members. Recognising how basic my questions were that I wanted to ask, I searched rather than asking. I think in hind sight, I should have asked, as searching for the answers was difficult because I did not know the terminology, or special words to search for."

I feel as though if we all posted a few "buzz words", their meaning, and the relationship with which type of baits that it could go a long way in reducing some of the repetative questions that are being asked. I mean, if you don't know what to look for, how do you perform an effective search?

For example:
Hard Baits
Bib or Lip - A piece of shaped "plastic" or metal that is attached to the front or rear of a lure that imparts the action to that lure.
Clearcoat - A final finish that protects the paint on a lure.
D2T - Devcon 2-Ton - An epoxy used as a clearcoat.

Soft Baits
POP - Plaster of Paris

Some things everyone should know about search engines:
Most search engines are setup to exclude 1, 2 & 3 letter words.

Why?
Every one of those words would get indexed & kill or (overwhelm) your search results. Common words like "I" "and" "if" "you" would return thousands of hits & bury pertinent results.

However I can & do include popular abbreviations in the search database.
Common abbreviations like:
POP (Plaster Of Paris)
MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone)
Lip
Bib, etc;
among others should fetch results.

Something to keep in mind while searching.

A glossary of words/terms, good idea Lincoya. If enough are collected, they could be compiled into an alphabetical list, all in one place. I certainly would have found it very useful at the start and would still find it useful today, especially when I wander into wire baits or plastics forums.

Thinking about a lot of the engineering stuff, would it be feasible to link to external sources like Wikipedia, for more in depth explanations, should the inquirer desire? Or would you rather leave those words out of the list.

Also, to get the most out of the search engine, it is best to type in multiple words. This way, I can usually get the list down to 3 or 4 threads of good information. This is probably common knowledge, but someone out there may not know.

Further to a "buzz" word list; I think it would be more helpful to the newbie to list them by catagory. softbaits; hardbaits; wirebaits, etc.

That would make the searching and the learning curve a little shorter for them.

Denatured Alcohol = Methylated Spirit (Metho)
Mineral Turpentine = Turps
Lady (informal) = Sheila
