i just started trying to make my own crankbaits, and so far im pretty good, until i get to the painting part. i bought some paint off of jannsnetcraft and tried spraying it through my airbrush but it always clogs up and makes a big mess in my airbrush. it seems like it dries way to fast. i didnt do any thinning, maybe that's whats wrong. and sometimes my airbrush starts spraying out dry paint. i really need some advice, before i just give up...

If you bought the "lacquer" paint from Jann's, you will need to thin the heck out of it. This paint is very thick (at least in my experience) Use a good quality virgin lacquer thinner. You can also use acetone, but test a little bit before you mix a lot, some of these colors react a little funny. You want the paint to be the consistency of skim milk.

samjf00 - Hang in there, there is more to it than just picking a colour and spraying it, it's paint not coloured pencils. Someone came up with the idea of using poly pipe to practice on, do this instead of using your hard earned creations - If you don't like the colour /effect, just wipe it off, thin/thicken the paint, turn the air up/down and have another go. Just remember, cheap paints contain cheap pigments (usually coarse), weather they are oil, shellac, lacquer, or water based acrylics, and WILL give you a clogged tip, speckled finish and much heart ache etc. You Do get what you pay for, and as 'CreekMonster' said, get some good thinners, some of the stuff sold as 'Thinners', is just waste from spray booths, sugar cane plants, and breweries. thanks for the advice jay. i bought some thinner, and some new white paint (the one from janns would not thin at all, so i bought a bottle of createx airbrush white). it sprays really good now, but i still find changing colors a hassle.

Read your gun instructions about back flushing. Cleans out the paint good.
