A friend of mine showed me a rig he was using for stripers. It was the first I have seen it used. It was a six inch piece of dowl with a screw in the end(no hooks in the dowl) to which he tied a thirty # leader. On this leader he tyed two crappy jigs about eight inches apart. He connected to his line with a swivel. The entire rig was about eighteen inches long.
My freind said that he was catching stripers non-stop while the tide was moving and there was a good current. I thought that I could improve upon the dowl with the screw in the end.
Does any one use this style rig? I think that You could use flies with it too. Any thoughts?

That particular rig in various forms has been around awhile and is generically called a "dropper rig". It has its roots in jumpfishing and will work anytime anywhere predator fish are slashing and killing baitfish schools. Pradco attempted to commercially capitalize on this rig with Drop Zara Spooks & Drop Pop-R's several years ago, I'm sure with limited success, because I remember picking up several in the bargain bins. But it is a fish catching rig, and not a bad thing to have tied on and ready anytime you might encounter schoolie surface action, be they smallies in a reservoir or stripers in the bay (or reservoir).
