When the "wipers" are feeding, they drive baitfish to the surface and just plow through them. My research showed that the school of wipers is somewhat cone shaped. The smaller, younger, more enregetic fish are nearer the top of the cone and the larger fish are deeper and near the outer edge. The larger fish just wait for the "fallout" of dead of injured baitfish. They just leasurely cruise around and suck them up. They expend less energy this way by letting the younger fish do most of the work.

We would sit with the motor idling and wait for the water to boil. We'd zip over to the boil and cast 1/2 ounce round-head jigs with 3" white Mr. Twister tails. We'd aim for the edge of the boil and just let the jigs fall. This would simulate a "fallout" baitfish.
