Tougher line

I know most of you already have your favorite lines you like to use, but if you haven't tried some of the new low-stretch monofiliment lines I would recommend you field test a few. I have been using Berkley Sensation for the last two years and have been amazed by the results. It's has a thinner than standard mono diameter, very low stretch, and has great knot stregnth and shock absorbtion. I originally got it to try on my crankbait rods and was instantly pleased by the sensitivity it adds to fishing these baits. I now use it on almost everything and have fished all day without having to retie. It doesn't do as well for worming or jigging though, dragging it across certain bottom types will exceed its abrasion resistance. For this I have switched from Big Game to Ironsilk, another low-stretch filiment line. I have used it since febuary and so far cannot find one thing wrong with it. Its abrasion resistance and knot stregnth are unlike anything I have ever used and it casts like a dream. I am not trying to plug any one manufacturer, Stren and a few others market versions of these also, but these are the two I have used and are now the only two types of monofiliment line I buy. Many of the newer lines that hit the market seem much like gemmicks, but in my opinion these particular two really show the jump in the technology of the industry. If you think these types of lines will not be forgiving enough or be prone to breaking, spool up with some and try it, I think you will be as pleased with them as I am.

:P Funny, those are the only 2 lines I use as well! (except for big game)

I use the Sensation in 6 and 8# test on my spinning reels. Great for dropshotting. I haven't stepped up to flourocarbon yet.

I use the Ironsilk (which I love!) on my baitcasters. With the exception of my Shimano Cardiff that I use for big swimbaits, where I use 25# big game.

The only complaint (I have heard, I have none) is about the visibility factor on the Ironsilk. I have heard a lot of guys say it's just too bright in clear water. But I seldom fish crystal water so I have no problems with it. It's deffinitely strong around wood and brush!! It also ties smoother than any other mono I've used in the past, and it's very sesitive with almost no stretch.

Hey Guys,
I was a big believer in Sensation, but just recently became so enraged with it that I stripped two reels of it and switched back to Trilene XL. I used Sensation all year last season and loved. All of a sudden this year I have had fish break me off about 4 times and often break the line when tying the knot. (Trilene Knot) I don't know what the hell the problem is with it, but it just isn't the same line that I thought it was last season.

Do you guys have any input on why it's so weak all of a sudden? I do alot of jig fishing and Mojo rigging and it just seems to be too easily broken. I don't want to completely give up on it, because it has excellent sensitivity, but I through with break-offs.

Help!

It is not known for its abrasion resistance Attitude, I have problems with it myself when dragging baits across the bottom. For both of the lures you mentioned having problems with I have been using the IronSilk with no problems, JIM

Yeah I hear ya....that's why I'm disappointed with it. It's supposed to be "super sensitive"....which it is, but you need sensitivity when you are jig or bottom fishing (not crankbait/spinnerbait fishing) and if it isn't very abrasion resistant, then what's it good for? I'm gonna have to stick with it on my spinnerbait/crankbait rods. Thanks for the info...

I'll tell you, after the day I had on the water yesterday, I might just have to completly switch over to the IronSilk, had some heavy flooding here alot lately and you should have seen the crap I was flipping in, the puny 12 lb IronSilk took every bit of punishment I could throw at it and not one break all day. This stuff gets better everytime I go out, JIM.

Iron Silk is definately the next thing in "super lines". I want them to make it clear though....fishing in ultra clear water, like I do, that flourescent green just isn't for me.

I haven't even seen that flo-green except in advertisments, all I have used is the dark green, so dark it looks black on the spool. I do wish they would make it in clear also, but most of my lakes aren't clear anyway, JIM

If I may add 2 to the list that weren't mentioned; You guys must check out a line by Yozuri called Cobra X-Tex.I can't even explain How this stuff is so superior to other super monos.Memory free, like silk, super abrasion resist, etc.like no other IMO.(available only in Cabela's I believe)
AS for plain ol' mono Maxima ultragreen,if you buy it and aren't happy,I'll buy the used spool from ya ...><>...HS
