We all know that suspending jerks in cold water or pre-pre spawn works like a charm on large and especially smallmouth bass. But, do any of you guys use them in warm water during the summer or early fall months with any consistant success?

I do find the fish bite cosistent when the fish are feeding on shad or other small bait fish. When fishing jerks in warm water, I try to fish them parallel to weed or grass lines. I fish them fast! Only pausing for a second every few jerks. I find this to be a good substitute for crankbaits in the summer, just to show them something different.

I love to target big Spotted Bass and keep a suspending jerkbait tied on all summer and fall. Bass become really shad oreinted in our southern lakes during these times. I like to make really long casts to get the bait as deep as I can and let the fish tell me how long to pause it. A baitcaster is better for these than a spinning rod to me, the best rod I ever saw for jerkbaits was a 6 1/2 ft custom rod with a trigger handle that had a medium-light St. Criox spinning rod blank. I use both the suspending models and the regular floating models in the summer. I've found that they'll hit the floating Rogue when they're reluctant to hit a top water. I work it just under the surface. .....kat

I fish suspend jerkbaits year round. I have three rods all rigged with suspend jerkbaits. One shallow, one medium, and one deep. I had 100 fish days in Canada in 67 degree water on points and rock piles with jerks. Clearer the water, more likely I am to work a jerkbait, and work it fast. Dirtier water, I'll let the bait sit longer. Fish will tell you which way they want it. Windswept points and shelves are ideal smallie areas......most people fish them wrong. Try sitting boat shallow and casting deep. I really like the Bomber pro suspend 15a's because they will roll out if you jerk hard enough, showing the pretty sides of the bait. The idea is to get the bait to turn about 90 degrees to the left and the right. I dont use hard jerkbaits, but i do use a 5 inch zoom super fluke. I rig it on a 1ot eagleclaw featherlite. Its just light enough to suspend on a slow to med retreive.You can also work it fast for some awsome topwater action. this is one of my go to's in any condition.

i have pretty good luck one them all year.personally i like a slow or med retrieve.but sometimes a fast retrieve is best.like stated in the post above the fish will tell you how they like it.are you the buckeye from that other place?I'm bass buster there.
