I'm back using a spinning reel for drop shot. Had a stradic 2000 but thought the spool was too small. (I spent too much time fiddling with keeping line on spool.) What would you recommend for an intermediate priced reel ($60-70)? Daiwa laguna or ?

You might want to consider the Pflueger President 6730 or 6735. 9 bearings and they sell for $59.95.

I been using a Shimano Sedona 2500FB with 6 lbs. test for a drop shot rig, and it works great, no line problems. I use Cabela's Co Polymer pro line, never had any issues. ??

I'm with Z-Reel,
I use Shamino on my spinning reels Pflueger and Quantum on bait casters. I have had zero problems with my Shamino spinning reels and drop shot a lot down here at Table Rock.

sounds like you spooled the line on wrong or not closing the bail by hand. just a thought. two biggest problems with spin tackle. just remembered i had a terrible problem keeping line on the spool with some of the flouro coated stren lines.

You hit the nail right on the head......
I work in a big box type tackle shop and have sold many laguna's. All of my repeat coustomers that have purchased them rave about them. Diawa have come a long way in the past 10 years, and if you ask me, they're making some of the most solid reels today. I throw a few of the high end Diawa's and havent had a problem. Also, Quantum has a lot to offer you in lower priced, high end reels. Quantum are my go to company, but Diawa are a close second. As you've read Shimano's are an option here, and while I'll never knock a shimano or a fisherman sporting one, would you beleive that I get more shimano returns and repairs in my shop than any other big name reel? You'll often hear them refered to as "Shimbind-o's", reason being, they are notorios for binding up. Although, this isn't the case with every Shimano reel. But, with those kinds of numbers in return and repair, it's enough to ensure that my business and confidence is in Quantum and Diawa. But what really matters is that you try a bunch of reels out, see what feels right to YOU. If possible throw a few casts on a couple of friends set ups, doing this will give you a better feel for what the reel will feel like after some use. I have a customer that rants and raves about how "Shimano's feel incredible out of the case, but after 6 months of fishing them your left with a bucket of bolts and another back up reel". He may be right, he may not be. Point is, do some good research, I'd recomend doing so at: http://www.tackletour.com, and get out on the water.

Mr. photog: thank you for your detailed reply. As you may note, the original post was old and I bought a Shimano Navi 2000 on a whim. Nice reel. However, now thinking about adding another larger reel to the arsenal. I am still thinking about Daiwa again; exceler?
What would you charge for a couple of photos of cranks and possibly posting same? regards, sdr.
