Cold Storage for Rods and Reels
If you store your rods and reels where they get cold over the winter such as in an unheated garage or shed, be sure to loosen the reels on the rods. This prevents the metal reel feet from cracking the composite rod seats while being stored.

Great advice Mac10. If i might add one also.
When putting your reels away for the season, always be sure to loosen the drag to prevent squishing your internal drag washers.
