I seem to have trouble catching bass on a overcast day. I know they can be shallow and that it spreads them out. Any help or clues will be appreciated.

I find my best days are when the barometer reading is high. This may have only been a coincidence as I have not fished much recently. Would be interested in other opinions or research.

As you said an overcast day spreads them out. On those days you have to cover water with a spinnerbait of some kind. Sometimes we use large spinners(panthermartins or blue fox) The sizes that are used for salmon on the west coast. I prefer the dressed ones. Once you hit a bunch then slow down and fish your plastics. Flats with a drop off nearby are good places or large points.

Fish need stable weather for about 3 days before they will really bite well on a pattern. overcast is usually good conditions to fish usually means a front is approaching which drops the pressure and fish will feed and become active, a good rule of thumb is WATCH the jet streams the WIDER and LONGER they stay means the moisture that is in the air and that is a good sign that fish will bite, also that a front is moving in. Bluebird / Milehigh skys are always tough, bass feed every day sometime I have found that if they go in the early morning then they will probably go again late evening, if no morning bite than don't you dare leave untill 2 pm they will go between 10 and 2 midday, if not all day they may be on a night feed which happens alot of time do to pressure by either fishermen or boat traffic..........weather conditions effects the deep fish less then shallow fish, so on tough days try fishing deep............. to learn more read the book Buck Perry wrote......The Key to Success.... he was "THE" master on fish habits.
