Dog hair fly

Talk about a cheap way to make a fly.

Re: Dog hair fly

My son has a bunny rabbit out back here, I'm thinking of shaving his ass bald! He's got some fine looking fur that I think would be great for a fly!

Re: Dog hair fly

One local fellow was catching a lot of crappie on some dog hair jigs. They were made of a number of colors, brown, gold, white tip, grey and black. When a buddy asked him what he was using, it was the body hair of an old german shephard. When the friend stopped by to visit, he noticed the dog had gaps.

Re: Dog hair fly

Just make sure you give the dog a bath before clipping or you'll have some added scent to your flys.

Re: Dog hair fly

Actually, I've tied streamers using German shepherd, skunk, and flies with squirrel tails. My Dad and I went off fishing one time and left our hand tied beauties sitting on the kitchen table. We got to the stream and found a couple of plain hooks. We looked around the family station wagon and found a few knit caps, a scarf, and some other odds and ends, and a bottle of my sisters clear nail polish. I don’t think we caught anything on our scrounge-flies, but it was funny try to tie them… I held a hook in the needle nose pliers while dad tried to tie up the offerings.

Re: Dog hair fly

I read an article a while back that there was some hormone trace in female pubic hair that somehow attracted feeding fish. So, in the spirit of TU, pushing the boundaries of fishing science, I suggested the idea to my wife. I didn't see her again for nearly three weeks, she went back to her mothers place.

Re: Dog hair fly

I know sharks are attracted to blood... While visiting Jacks Beach, FL, wife 1.0 was enduring the "curse" and was in a snitty mood. I suggested that she might want to swim out a little further from shore... Darn old sharks never did show up... Stupid sharks!!!!!
