Lighting matter

Fellas mama shoved me out of my last hold out in the house, I need a cheap, small clip on light for my new tying area, know of any?

Re: Lighting matter

In addition to the lamp, I have a white LED torch light, the kind that clips to your cap. It is excellent for lighting up fine detail.

Re: Lighting matter

The clamp lights use a regular 60 watt bulb and sometimes are available at wally world or the nearest hardware....they are the ones with the larger clamps and the metal shade. I drilled my shades with 4 holes near the base of the bulb to run cooler.

Re: Lighting matter

The Ott lamps cover the full light spectrum (daylight). Haven't tried the LEDs - yet (they have some with up to 24 bulbs!). Seen one that had an attachment for your fly tying vice.

Re: Lighting matter

Any way you slice it I got pushed out of another perfectly good setting so one of my kids could have a new bedroom. Now I'm reduced to an armoire in the living room with one piddley shelf for tying stuff, shared by my computer. The rest of my crap is in boxes in the basement. It's so darn dark in here I could barely see the hook point and got poked last night. So thats when I turned in my chair from the vise and started this thread, with a bloody finger. The foreseen cost of kids.

Re: Lighting matter

Brian, use this as an opportunity to claim your own space. The basement sounds ideal. Clear it out, paint the walls white, fit some tailored lights to your precise needs, make some work benches and fit a lock on the door. Peg boards for your tools, sound insulated box for the compressor, extractor system, Fridge, TV, sofa! You have to think of the cup as being half full, not half empty.

Re: Lighting matter

Vman has the right idea. I was a proud father when the kids graduated high school and college, when my son completed his 6 years in the Marines. Now, with the youngest at 25, we have reclaimed their bedrooms for our own use. To quote my dad, "Don't let the door hit you were the good Lord slit you."

Re: Lighting matter

I’ve found two at a local swap meet (flea market), different desk models, for $5 each! One mans trash – another mans treasure…
