I'm going to try to tie a few small minnow jigs using Mylar tubing something like this, that Punisher makes, and dress it up a bit ... experimenting a bit if you will
Was wonder what type of thread would work the best on tying Mylar tubing?
Mylar tubing looking that small you're looking at either 6/0 or 8/0 Uni thread in what ever color you're tying with. with the size of your jighead I'm guessing 1/16 or 1/32nd I'd use the 8/0. Keeps the bulkiness down.
That really has the look of an effective perch and crappie jig - have you tried it on the water yet? I was thinking more of kavilar thread, that way the tail tie can take a little more abuse and still keep basically in tact.

I've thought about trying some of that Kevlar thread but don't have a ceramic guide type bobbin and I've heard using Kevlar threads can pay hell on standard bobbins and tear up your fingers

No worries. Myself, I've never seen any bobbin wear from kevlar thread. It's just waxed thread, it won't hurt your fingers at all. (Kevlar or braid fishing line is a whole different matter.) Anyone who can be trusted with fishing hooks can surely be trusted with kevlar fly-tying thread.
If you want to try it, get some. I've used quite a bit of it, but it is considerably bulkier than the other thread recommendations you received. I try to keep my flies and jig wraps neat, and because of the bulk, I don't use kevlar unless nothing else will get the job done.
I used to make a mylar tube fly, the crappie and shad loved it! Also you have just inspired me to do something else new with mylar tube, maybe if it's good I'll show it off later.
Culprit and Punisher makes some nice mylar jigs, that's where I got the idea from. but they're pretty plan, so thought I'd give'em a try and experiment a bit with some other materials to dress them up a bit
