Try drilling a small hole in the bait and epoxy the feather shaft into it. I've used small finishing nails with bucktail tied to them with good results, just drill a hole and plug it with the nail and bucktail combo along with lots of epoxy and make sure the nail head is inside or flush with the baits exterior.

how did it turn out?

I was also interested in possibly using feathers or bucktail for fins or tails for both hard and plastic swimbaits; I have a castaic swimbait that the tail is mutilated that would make a good candidate for experimentation. Let us know...

Why don't you just tie the feathers or bucktail to the hook on the back of the plug? that way you can replace them if you have too.
