Wndering if You folks might beable to give some ideas on adding weight to my lures that I'm building?> I have some lead ingots that I'd like to melt but hate to buy a meltingpot anyone have a cheaper way to melt it.

Hi there, I used a soup can with a wood handle I installed on the can. Squeeze the top until you get a small V shape to pour from. I melt the lead with a propane torch. No matter how you do it, make sure you use ventilation and extreme caution with lead. You don't want any moisture in the lead or can and it will explode. Lead can be used safely if you just use common sence and caution. Some people use a single burner hot plate which isn't all that expensive. I made myself a skimmer to take off the crud that accumulates on the top of the melted lead from a scrap piece of banding. Just bend it into an L shape. You may want to put a wood handle on this also as the heat will travel up the banding. When You are done you can just let what left over in the can to reharden. Good luck. Make sure you use a tin can and not aluminum as aluminum melts fairly easy also.

I use a similar method,I have stolen one of the wifes cast iron saucepans and a blowlamp,it works O.K.
Although I am thinking of getting something a bit more suited to a higher production rate.
But for small runs of lures the saucepan/soupcan and blowtorch will work fine.

Muskietom,
Get yourself a Lee lead melter. If you are planning on doing this for quite sometime into the future a melter is much safer and easier to use. If you melt lead wheel weights like I do, then by all means di it outside. The weights get brake dust and brake fluid from time to time. The smell is very bad. Mark
