scale netting

Do you guys reuse your netting? After about 4 or 5 paints my netting get real stiff. Do I just replace it? Or wash it and mash it up till it gets moveable and soft.

Thanks 338muakie

338,
Toss it, it's cheap enough.

It scrubs clean with a toothbrush and dish soap.

Re: scale netting

I would think if your using water based paint it should clean up pretty good.

Has anyone ever tried using that fiberglass wall board tape. I know it seems to adhere, so I thought maybe it would work for painting scales.

Re: scale netting

That's what I use. The scale pattern is more course than with the netting, and it's a square pattern. I turn it to a 45 degree angle to get a diamond pattern. It is cheap, doesn't mess up heat set Createx, and does stick. I use clothes pins to pull it tight top and bottom, and throw it away after one use.

Re: scale netting

Been keeping this one a secret but I found the best mesh for scales at the flea market. I was browsing in one of those chinese dollar stores for nick nacks to use on my painting and saw some little tents you put over your plates at picnic's to keep the bugs away. Its like an umbrella that opens. It has a very small octagon pattern and is 1 dollar each! I can paint about 30 baits from one just cut the mesh out. You probably wont find them in my town though, I bought them all.........

Re: scale netting

I remember those. My Mom used to have them to cover our food when we ate outside.
