I don't know of any lexan dealers in the area, so my only supply for lips is from a large sheet of plexi-glass I have. I was wondering if they are really bad to use as lips. In what situations is plexi at its weakest? Thanks a lot guys!
Plexiglass is a trade name for polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). Lexan, a trade name for polycarbonate, has better impact resistance. Small 12"x12" sheets of polycarbonate are not very expensive and you can make quite a few lips from a sheet. You can order it in several thicknesses from mcmaster.com or buy it at home centers/glaziers. For bass baits, I mostly use 1/16" thickness.
Kribman - Don't even think about it, it's a no contest. Its no fun trying to remove a snapped lip, cold water and sunlight really harden plexiglass (read brittle hard). Get it right first go and use poly if you can get it. pete

Down HERE, we have to think outside the box.
Most glass shops have Lexan. As said before, don't use plexiglass. It becomes brittle with temperature and time and cracks. It may be easier to buy from Jann's Netcraft.
Go to your local glass shop and they probably sell scraps of either lexan or some other brand of polycarbonate. You will likely do better there than your local hardware store. There are a number of trade names for polycarbonate, lexan is just one brand of polycarbonate. The stuff is bullet proof... literally they make bullet proof glass from it. Safety glasses are also made from polycarbonate. As far as plastic lips are concerned it is the stuff to use.
Hazmail is right, it is better to use the best material the first tiem than to repair with that material later.
