Paint Types

Just wondering what type of paint most of you folks like to use. Transparent or opaque? I favor the transparent for foil baits but what about painting over a white base coat?

Re: Paint Types

I use both over foil or a pearl white base.

Re: Paint Types

I use opaque for my base coat, and transparent for my shading and scale patterns. I use iridescent for my backs, and shade over that with transparents, too.

Re: Paint Types

Thanks for the replies, the reason I asked is that a local art store is blowing out all there Createx paints at half price so I dont want to stock up on stuff I won't use.

Re: Paint Types

I use whatever I think looks good- trouble is, I never know when to stop. Keep it simple. pete

Re: Paint Types

How easy is it to take an ordinary acrylic or enamel opaque and spray it through an airbrush. How does one know when it is thick enough?

Re: Paint Types

Kribman- thick enough isn't usually the problem. Too thick is usually the problem. The best discription I have heard on how thick your airbrush paint should be is "the consistancy of skim milk". Thinner paints give you more control and less tip drying.
Hope this helps!
